ACTIBIOSAFE Project

ACTIBIOSAFE project will contribute to reduce alteration of the food and food contamination risks by developing active and biodegradable packaging systems, which will deliver a new approach for the sustainable processing of bioplastics and will provide a functional packaging solution for food, as well as other applications.

Active packaging properties will be achieved through the use of chitosan and other bioactive natural substances that will contribute to antimicrobial and antioxidant characteristics in order to extend the shelf-life of the packaged goods and consequently to diminish the use of preservatives on food formulations. These features of food packaging contribute to improvement the level of consumers’ awareness and their capacity to make healthy choices and the prevention of chronic diseases. Also, development and implementation of active food packaging envisage environment protection with respect to the decrease in fossil resources and need to reduce the amount of disposable packaging materials.

The solutions implemented for achieving these objectives concern materials, processes and technologies. Moreover, specific project orientations will be implemented.

International conference “Achievements and future steps” 10 December 2015 - Bucuresti, Romania

The international conference "Achievements and future steps" was held on 10th of December 2015 in Bucharest, event organized under the "Research in priority sectors" - RO 14, financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2009-2014 and co-financed from the national budget.

The conference aimed at promoting intermediate results generated by the 23 joint research projects funded by RO 14, developed by project promoters in Romania and their partners from donor countries, Norway and Iceland, the mid-term implementation. In addition, the event facilitated the exchange of knowledge, views and best practices with the ultimate aim of strengthening bilateral relations between Romania and donor countries in research and innovation and also to stimulate academia and SMEs to plan future partnerships.

The ACTIBIOSAFE project was presented by the project director, Prof. Dr. Cornelia Vasile, the Romanian partners attending the conference as well. The conference agenda and projects presentations can be seen at http://www.research.ro/ro/articol/3750/program-see-ro-the-conference-achievements-and-future-steps .
